Johnson & Johnson Utilizes Ace’s Unfired Clean Steam Generators for Final Package Sterilization

Sterilization is the process of eliminating microorganisms from a surface, substance, or object. In the medical device packaging sector, terminal sterilization refers to the process of sterilizing products within their final container. According to ISO 11607, the primary objectives of a terminally sterilized packaging system is to enable effective sterilization, provide physical protection, preserve sterility until the point of use, and facilitate aseptic presentation. Steam is one of the sterilization processes commonly used in medical device final packaging.

 

The Important Role of Ace’s Unfired Clean Steam Generators (UCSG)

Ace’s steam generators have been expertly engineered for a wide range of critical applications, including medical terminal sterilization, humidification, and research processes.

Recently, two Ace Unfired Clean Steam Generators were installed at one of Johnson & Johnson’s manufacturing plants. The new generators support the final step in the manufacturing process by providing terminal sterilization for contact lenses. This involves placing the lenses in sterile packaging and labeling them with essential information, such as the expiration date and care instructions. Final package sterilization is essential for products like contact lenses, and we are proud that Ace’s steam generators are playing a crucial role, making sure every package is sanitary and safe.

 

Reliability

Johnson & Johnson is a returning customer of Ace’s. This new installation was in addition to three previously installed generators at the same facility. Titanium tubing was used for this project, which was a special requirement we provided after Johnson & Johnson encountered multiple failures with their previous manufacturer, who used stainless steel tubing. The Ace UCSGs are designed with reliability and safety as top priorities.
